"Schnee" ("snow") is omnipresent in the works of Swiss black metal artist Wintherr a.k.a. Paysage D'Hiver and turned into a four-part song cycle, released piece by piece on the LP "Wurzelgeister" ('Schnee II', 2002) and on split records with Vinterriket ('Schnee I', 2003), Nordlicht and Drudkh ('Schnee III' and 'Schnee IV', 2017).
All four tracks - created within a time span of almost 20 years and dealing with different facets of the frozen element - are now available together for the first time ever. Remastered specially for this release.
Schnee is one of the best releases in Paysage d’Hiver’s discography, as the different tracks from different periods within the band’s near 30 year lifespan perfectly demonstrate just how much the band has evolved, without really changing that much. Even though the songs are recorded at different times within a 16 year period, they still feel cohesive, and fit each other very well. It is clear that they each explore different perspectives on the same concept, as they feel similar while also being distinctly separate from each other. Definitely a release to check out for those interested in PdH that somehow have not already heard it.
