"The Graves and Ghosts of Yore" sounds like a raw symphonic black metal album with a somewhat vampiric/medieval style in the atmosphere due to the good use and great sound contribution of the piano and synthesizers. On a sonic level, one of the most noticeable characteristics of Deogen's second album is the more polished melodies. The aggressive, suffocating atmosphere of their first album ("The Endless Black Shadows of Abyss") is somewhat abandoned, replaced by a more optimistic, cheerful, and at times even melancholic sound, while still remaining an excellent piece of music within the dark realm of Black Metal.
There's also a notable improvement in sound quality; the lo-fi tone is maintained, but with the addition of effects, more complex arrangements, and more refined production techniques. This allows each instrument to shine on its own without overpowering the others, preventing the final production from feeling oversaturated. The Graves and Ghosts of Yore is an impeccable assault of black metal, epic and powerful with a magical and captivating darkness and a triumphant sound. Congratulations to both musicians for their excellent work.
