Their last album, 2012’s Imperator, was an immensely complex album that was a very interesting and very good two-disc affair. Five years later, they have returned with their fourth album entitled Interequinox.
Dødsengel have picked up right where they left off five years ago with great tremolo picked riffs that somehow also manage to contain memorable melodies!
Kark’s tortured screams really add to the overall atmosphere of this album with his highest notes sounding akin to a castrated, dying goat (which is appropriate for black metal). His occasional low gutturals are part of a surprisingly varied vocal performance that even incorporates cleans. The variation of pitch in the screams is also a pleasant surprise. Not many black metal vocalists think about pitch variation in screams but it is very successful for Dødsengel.
