Butterly-edition.
Death would go on to become more technical and progressive with later albums, but Scream Bloody Gore is as straightforward as it gets. There are traces of Slayer, Sepultura, and Kreator here mainly. Chuck’s quest for uncompromising aggression and speed makes this arguably Death’s most one dimensional album… but if you’re going to be one dimensional, this is the right dimension. The catchy songwriting coupled with the sense to not take himself too seriously here, Chuck created a timeless gem that has spawned metal’s most prolific and widespread metal sub-genre. He has often inspired and been imitated but rarely ever rivaled in quality or legacy.
This is one of the all-time classics of not just death metal, but metal as a whole. If you somehow haven’t heard of this groundbreaking classic or are looking to get into extreme metal, do yourself a favor and listen to this ageless gem that will forever be lauded as one of metal’s most important milestones.
