Ever since their 2018 release "...and As We Have Seen the Storm...", Chapel of Disease has quickly become manys favorite death metal band. How they challenged and bent the genre to their will on that album was remarkable. The guitar work in particular is the band's strongest point, and it was the strongest aspect of that album next to how it wasn't afraid to get proggy in the right places. The band's newest release Echoes of Light very much "echoes" their last album's strongest points but also, like the moon guitarist/vocalist Laurent T. seems to love, waxes in its first half only to wane in its second half. Though for the typical death metal fan, this album is an even more challenging listen.
Chapel has made something that is not only mildly unique, but something very personal. Enjoyment of this album heavily depends on expectation. For better or for worse, Echoes of Light is another one of those pieces of music that encourages that you keep an open mind whenever you put it on, even if its guitarwork and clean vocals are some of the most inspired and impassioned guitars and clean vocals you'll ever hear anywhere, regardless of the music's classification.
