This is a terrific pact of occultism and witchcraft by these two tremendous acts of Austrian lands.
Hagzissa, hailing from western Tirol lands, casts their atavistic spells in the form of primitivist, addictive and almost eerily psychedelic Doom-y, mid-paced Black Metal. A project that should need no introduction, featuring members involved in other terrific acts of the Linz scene such as Kringa, Alruna or Forgotten Shrines; Hagzissa released a debuting promo in 2017 and a thunderous, well acclaimed album in 2019, "They Ride Along". Clearly taking inspiration from elder names of the proto-Black Metal scene, such as Celtic Frost, Death SS or Mortuary Drape, Hagzissa then proceeds to distort and morph this sound with eerie witchy vocals and Rock n Roll leads, along with a touch of Punk savagery and Bestial chaos, creating a really unique sound of Mid-paced Black Metal witchcraft that should please fans of acts like Negative Plane, Cultes des Ghoules or Cemetery Lights.
And then comes Hexenbrett, a mysterious act, also from Austria, with an also excellent set of releases already, including one Demo, one EP and a full-length released through Caligari Records and Dying Victim Productions. A band known to also incorporate similar influences as Hagzissa, particularly old Italian Proto-BM like Death SS. or Bulldozer, this act continues to extend its Italian obsessions even further into 70s giallo culture, as can be seen on their first track, a rather eerie and witchy acoustic omen, definitely reminiscing old giallo soundtracks, particularly those by Goblin. The second track however is maybe one of their most pure Black Metal leaning, with a more Scandinavian second wave approach to them, with cold, tremolo picked riffs and the use of delicate, beautiful keyboard additions.
